Sounds of the Valley
Focusing on young people within the Medway Gap, Sounds of the Valley is an interactive music and art project providing young people with an opportunity to appreciate and celebrate their local area in a creative way.
Children from three local schools - Halling Primary, Burham Primary and Cuxton Junior school - had the exciting opportunity to work directly with an artist and musician on this project and produce their own DVD!
Artist Will Glanfield and musician Stephen Clee joined forces to take a small group of pupils from each school on a creative journey through their local landscape. Armed with a packed lunch, pen & paper and waterproofs, each group was led on a journey of exploration around their local countryside. Each walk and the childrens' thoughts along the way were documented through sound recordings, photographs and videos.
Over following weeks, each group worked with Will and Steve using computers and simple software programmes to produce a series of short video pieces using the photos and recordings gathered from each walk.
The DVD recreates a sense of their journeys through each landscape, with the children's pieces being creative responses to their experiences of that place, on that day.
