River Warden Scheme
Local people are being recruited as river wardens to patrol sections of the River Medway in Snodland, Halling, Burham & Wouldham following its recent extension into the Medway Gap.
River wardens are all volunteers and are the eyes and ears on the ground. On a local stretch of river, wardens undertake activities including reporting any problems such as fly tipping and pollution, removing unsightly litter, monitoring footpaths and recording wildlife.
River wardens are provided with all necessary equipment - wildlife recording forms, litter pickers, bags and even a t-shirt, training. It's a great way to get out and about and learn more about wildlife whilst helping keep your local area tidy. Volunteers commit to as little or much time as they want to and choose the area that they want to monitor and can work in pairs or a small group if want to.
The scheme is being run by the Medway Valley Countryside Partnership with funding from Valley of Visions.
