Industrial Heritage

The cement industry’s impact on the area is clearly visible today – quarries are carved into the hillsides and the remains of kilns and cement works clearly show the importance of the industry to the area. However, this important part of the valley’s heritage is often overlooked and undervalued – caught between the more alluring past and the present.

Valley of Visions is working on a number of projects to raise awareness about the Medway Gap’s more recent past including talks and events and the restoration of a 100 year old railway cart, which was found buried in a quarry near Halling.
